National Cupcake Day Fundraiser Success!

It's been one week since the BIG National Cupcake Day Fundraiser in support of SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada.  Last week my team, M&M Sprinkles, held our final fundraising event - a bake sale.  We had an AMAZING number of baked goods donated and even managed to secure a last minute second bake sale with the remaining goods from our sale at a local sports centrethat evening.

All in all we had a great time and raised over $1,500 for our local SPCA.  Big shout out to all of the team members of M&M Sprinkles and our baking supporters.

As for my bake sale goods, I served up three new flavours: Sangria Cupcake, Shirley Temple Cupcake and B52 Cupcake. Recipes coming this month from all my February baking excursions PLUS a Patty's Day inspired recipe too!

National Cupcake Day Countdown: 3 days away!

Only three more days until National Cupcake Day and the new fundraiser in support of SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada. My team, M&M Sprinkles, is getting closer to our goal of $1,000 and we're hoping our BIG Bake Sale on Monday will get us there.

Our most recent fundraising activity was a Casual Day where our team collected donations at our workplace entrance. As a thank you to any donation above $2, we gave people tickets on a draw for a cupcake tree filled with cupcakes baked by the lovely BA! Big CONGRATS to PT on winning the cupcakes and kudos for sharing with your fellow colleagues.

You may have noticed the three GIANT cupcakes in the picture. Well, those were baked by me and put up on a silent auction for the better part of the morning.  The three flavours were Colossal Carrot Cake Cupcake, Giant Red Velvet Cupcake, and Sinful Cinnamon Buttermilk Cupcake. The silent auction was a huge hit - a big THANKS and CONGRATS to the successful bidders: RP,  MS and Finance. All in all the team had a great day and we raised over $500!

Curious about the baking of the Giant Cupcakes? Or maybe looking for the recipe for the Sinful Cinnamon Buttermilk Cupcake? Those will be featured in future posts, so be sure to check back for that AND the outcome of our Bake Sale on National Cupcake Day - February 25.

National Cupcake Day Countdown: 26 Days

Only two days left in January and 26 days until National Cupcake Day!  I have a team signed up...do you?  My team, M&M Sprinkles, had their kick-off meeting this past Friday, where we enjoyed some Watermelon Cupcakes (courtesy of me) and planned some fun fundraising activities to help support our local SPCA.  I think the Watermelon cupcakes really got the ideas flowing, so to help you get excited about National Cupcake Day too, I'll be posting the recipe later this week.

The team is pretty excited to get rolling with our first big activity planned for February 8.  Not only will we get casual day proceeds from our organization's Friday Jeans Day, but we'll be having some fun with ticket draws and a silent auction to raise a few extra dollars.  Pictures and fund tallies to follow after the event, but feel free to help us out by donating directly to our team online - just click HERE.

Calling All Cupcake & Animal Lovers!!

I have never needed an excuse to bake, but if I ever did need a compelling reason I've certainly found one!  As if National Cupcake Day (February 25) wasn't enough of a reason to preheat the oven...the day has now become a fundraiser for our furry friends!  That's right, the SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada are using it to raise some much needed funds for all fuzzy friends, big and small, that have been abused, abandoned or are in need of help.

I'll be turning out some new Faking Fancy Cupcake recipes for this fundraiser and may even start a vote on what cupcakes to create.  I'll also be dragging some co-workers into a team and registering within the next few days! Check out their site at www.nationalcupcakeday.ca and get a team together for your workplace or friend group.  It's sure to be fun and delicious - plus it's for a great cause.

Stay tuned as we begin our countdown to National Cupcake Day!

Cupcakes 4 a Cause (Year 2, Round 2)

It's hard to believe that May has come and gone again! Through many great activities and donations an outstanding cheque was presented to the IWK this past weekend. One of those contributors, RS, I owe one dozen cupcakes! Now that it's June, maybe he'll want a summer inspired cupcake like my Pink Lemonade Cupcake...recipe coming soon!

Cupcakes 4 a Cause (Year 2, Round 1)

Round 1 of the IWK auction has closed at work and I'm excited to say that SB was week one's successful bidder!  Last year, SB was out bid in the first week of the auction, but managed to secure the second week of auction cupcakes. He out bid several of his colleagues for a worthy cause with the promise of a delicious reward of one dozen cupcakes. What will he choose?  Will he be sharing with his FAB staff? Only time will tell.  But in the meantime, I'll be sharing the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cupcake's partner in crime at the bake sale, the Oatmeal Raisin Cinnamon Cupcake in my next post.

May, IWK and Bébés

It's May, which means a month of IWK inspired cupcakes at my workplace.  From auctions to bake sales, I'll be baking lots of cupcakes for a worthy cause this month.  PLUS, I have three friends expecting little ones this month, which means a few Baby's First Cupcakes to come.  But to kick it all off, I have been baking a few of my childhood favourite cookies transformed into cupcakes for our IWK bake sale tomorrow.  What flavour cookies did I bake? You'll just have to stay tuned or if you're a fellow colleague, pop down to the lobby and find out first hand with a few bills to drop down for a wonderful charity!

Bakers Unite for United Way

As a fundraiser for United Way, many of my colleagues and I hit our kitchens this past weekend and baked up a storm for our company's United Way Bake Sale. Every baked good variety you could think of was represented and, surprise surprise, I made cupcakes.  Since it's so close to Halloween, I decided to make something that was Halloween themed, or at least in colour - Orange Creamsicle Cupcakes.  Although I didn't get a chance to have one myself because they sold out quickly, from what I heard they were quite good.

I also raffled off a dozen Christmas themed cupcakes for the upcoming holiday season - big congrats to JT for being the lucky winner.  I wonder what festive flavour she'll choose...or maybe she'll decide on a tried and true flavour already featured or sampled. I guess we'll all have to wait and see.  But in the mean time, I'll share my seemingly popular cupcake at today's bake sale in my next post, the Orange Creamsicle Cupcake.

Deliciousness for a Donation

It seems like every fundraising events these days all have an entry fee to participate.  I don't do too many fundraising events each year, but I do participate in a few.  After hitting people up once, it's hard to ask them again for money. To make it a little easier to ask for the cash, I've started to offer up a cupcake for a donation instead.  It has been a HUGE success - if I do say so myself.  I've raised more money than my usual begging and I also have another reason to bake and experiment in the kitchen.

One of my annual fundraising events is just around the corner and I plan to bake up a storm!  To all my colleagues out there, bring your money on Monday and be rewarded with deliciousness!  Up on my experimental cupcake list are three new flavours: Rum and Coke Cupcake, Chai Tea Latte Cupcake and, last but not least, a Mojito Cupcake.  Recipes to come after I actually make them!

Cupcakes for a Cause (Round 2)

As promised, I put up another dozen cupcakes in my work’s IWK online auction.  There were several bids, but I’m pleased to say that the colleague who was in a bidding war during the last round won!  Second time’s the charm SB!  Hope you plan to share the cupcakes with your wonderful staff.  I wonder if you’ll choose a post or let me test some new cupcake recipes on you.  Don’t worry, I won’t take offense to you choosing a tried and true posted recipe.

The next cupcake recipe I’ll be posting is a great kid-approved treat that is exploding with colour and sugary goodness – the Nerdalicious Cupcake.

Cupcakes for a Cause (Round 1)

By weekend and weeknight I may bake, but by day I have a real job...and by a real job I mean a paying job.  The company I work for supports many different charities including the local children's hospital - the IWK.  As an annual fundraiser there is a silent auction where all proceeds go to the IWK.  This year I was kindly asked if I would donate a dozen cupcakes to the silent auction.  How could I say no to such a great cause and an excuse to bake!

Congrats to my successful bidder, KD, and thank you for your support of the IWK. A big shout out to SB too!  You were so close and maybe another chance will open up in week three of the silent auction…hint hint.

I heard that KD and her family will be checking out my blog soon for a little inspiration on what kind of cupcake to choose. I have to say, if I had to choose right now, I'd go with my most recent and SUPER popular experiment - Red Velvet Cupcake.

Ultimate Bake Sale

Well, it's official.  No one is safe from my cupcake experimentation.  I have crossed over from friends, family, and coworkers to my fellow Ultimate Frisbee players.  Everyone seems to be more then happy to try my concoctions and voice their opinions, but this past weekend I even managed to help raise a few dollars for Feed Nova Scotia selling these fun, tasty experiments.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the world of Ultimate Frisbee and are EXTREMELY confused as to why it makes perfect sense to have bake sale at a Frisbee tournament, allow me to explain.  As part of a bid (or application) to get your team accepted for a tournament, you usually need to offer to do or bring something to add value to the tournament.  For instance, a team may offer to help organize the tournament, plan an after party, compile a video recapping the tournament, etc.  So, as part of my friends' bid, they organized a bake sale to collect funds for Feed Nova Scotia.  And, although it wasn't my team, I'll never turn down an opportunity to bake and, more importantly, experiment with more recipes!  Plus, the money collected was going to a great cause.

Both the tournament and the bake sale were a great time and great success.  I don't have a tally to share on our fundraising efforts, but I do know that my four new flavours were thoroughly enjoyed.  I promised a few players that I'd post a recipe this week.  And, for those of you who don't know me, I never break a promise.  So, later this week I'll be sharing my Lemon Coconut Cupcake recipe.
